The Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) have reinforced their commitment to regulatory excellence through a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Leading a delegation of his management team, OGFZA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bamanga Usman Jada, paid a courtesy visit to NUPRC headquarters in Abuja, where both organizations engaged in high-level discussions on regulatory synergy and national development.
In a brief meeting, Jada highlighted the significant progress and revenue growth achieved under his leadership at OGFZA. He underscored the importance of inter-agency cooperation in driving efficiency and ensuring compliance within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
“Our collaboration with NUPRC is in the national interest. Regulatory agencies must work together to ensure Nigeria’s resources are managed effectively. I urge all relevant organizations to extend their full support to NUPRC for the collective progress of our country,” Jada stated.
The discussions centered on enhancing compliance frameworks, preventing exploitation of Nigeria’s resources, and promoting investor confidence. As the country’s foremost upstream petroleum regulator, NUPRC has a critical role in enforcing industry rules and ensuring operational transparency.
NUPRC Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to stringent regulatory oversight, emphasizing that with OGFZA’s support, no violations of Nigeria’s oil and gas policies would be tolerated.
“Our goal is to create a regulatory environment where both local and foreign investors operate within established guidelines, preventing any form of exploitation. This partnership with OGFZA will reinforce our capacity to safeguard Nigeria’s interests while fostering sustainable growth in the sector,” Komolafe stated.
The renewed partnership between OGFZA and NUPRC aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic agenda of optimizing revenue generation from its oil and gas sector while ensuring that investments adhere to global best practices. Industry stakeholders anticipate that this collaboration will lead to improved governance, increased investor confidence, and a more competitive energy sector in Nigeria.
