The Managing Director/CEO of Oil & Gas Free Zones Authority – OGFZA, Sen. Tijjani Kaura, MFR with the Special Adviser to the President on Industry, Trade & Investment, Mr. John Uwajumogu led some members of the Management team Oil & Gas Free Zones Authority – OGFZA and the representative of a major investor in Liberty Oil & Gas Free Zone on a Courtesy Visit to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno yesterday.
The SA to Mr President on Industry, Trade & Investment is currently assessing and evaluating the status and performance of Special Economic Zones in Nigeria, with a view to identifying areas for possible improvement to increase productivity and increase value addition to Nigerian GDP.
He was able to inspect activities in the World’s premier specialised/dedicated enclave for oil and gas value chain development, the Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone in Rivers State.
He then proceeded to Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone in Ikot Abasi LGA in Akwa Ibom State where he witnessed the massive development work in what is today the largest Special Economic Zone in Africa by landmass. Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone was declared a Free Zone by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018, bothering over 80 kilometres of the Atlantic Coast in Akwa Ibom State. This Zone beckons on Investors to take advantage of the huge resource belt.
Governor Umo Eno, among others, indicated that besides the MRO at Victor Attah International Airport, he requested for the partnership of the National Oil and Gas Free Zone Regulatory Managing Director/CEO, Sen. Kaura to facilitate the conversion of the airport into an International Airport and Cargo Hub.
In the same vein, the Governor promised to provide the necessary support to the Federal Government to make the dream of a vibrant and industrialised Akwa Ibom a reality, leveraging on the infrastructural structures his predecessor had started.
