Today, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), Sen. Tijjani Y. Kaura, MFR; received the Management of Bestaf Maritime Industrial Oil and Gas Free Zone (BMI OGFZ) at the Authority’s office in Maitama, Abuja.
In a brief ceremony to commemorate the handover at the Authority, Sen. Kaura handed over the Bestaf Maritime Industrial Oil and Gas Free Zone Regulations (2023) to the Managing Director, Mr. Otunba Jibrin.
While handing over the gazetted copies of “Regulations” to Mr. Otunba, the OGFZA helmsman urged him to keenly study the document which serves as a guide to the operations of the free zone in order to make the best use of it.
The said “Regulations” are pursuant to the powers conferred on the Authority by Section 25 of the Oil and Gas Export Free Zones Act, Cap 05 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and all other powers enabling it in that behalf with the approval of the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade & Investment.
Addressing the Management of Bestaf, Sen. Kaura highlighted key areas relating to licensing business entities within the free zone, procedure for importing, exporting and movement of goods as well as physical planning and construction procedures in the Free Zone all captured in the “Regulations”.
He said the objectives of the “Regulations” are to complement the provisions of the enabling Act and the 2019 Oil and Gas Free Zones Regulations. It also provides details of the regulatory and supervisory requirements necessary to promote efficient and profitable operations in Bestaf, as well as facilitate the attainment of the goals for which the Free Zone is established.
He assured the Management of Bestaf of the Authority’s readiness to render all necessary support in whatever area or issues in relation to the operations of Bestaf in line with the “Regulations”.
