The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA), Usman Bamanga Jada, was on Wednesday honoured with the Excellence in Public Service Award at the 2025 BusinessDay Public Service Lecture & Excellence Awards in Abuja.
The event brought together top government functionaries, policymakers, and public sector innovators under the theme: “Shaping Nigeria’s Economic Future: Navigating Challenges, Unlocking Opportunities.”
Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, chaired the high-profile ceremony, while the keynote address was delivered by Hadiza Bala Usman, who emphasized the importance of innovation, accountability, and reform-driven governance in advancing Nigeria’s economic development.
The annual programme served as a platform to reflect on the nation’s economic trajectory, public sector productivity, and the role of institutions in driving sustainable growth.
Jada’s recognition in the category of Excellence in Public Service underscores his leadership in repositioning OGFZA through innovation-focused administration and strengthened regulatory efficiency.
The award committee highlighted his contributions, including enhanced service quality and streamlined free zone operations, strengthened institutional governance and accountability, reforms that boosted investor confidence and transparency and improved competitiveness of Nigeria’s free zones in the global investment landscape. The honour is seen as a validation of OGFZA’s commitment to becoming a global model in integrated free zone development and investment facilitation.
Other award recipients include Festus Keyamo, SAN, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other distinguished government leaders and administrators.
In his remarks, Mohammed Idris commended ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, noting improvements in public trust, national cohesion, and government–citizen engagement. OGFZA remains fully committed to advancing Nigeria’s economic development through world-class free zone administration, investor-focused service delivery, and strategic innovation.
